Easter 2012 - Antalya, Turkey
Monday, 14 November 2011 21:49

Over the last few years club members have enjoyed excellent Easter trips to a variety of destinations - the weather hasn't always been sunny but we have always had loads of fun, even with Icelandic volcanoes and Egyptian idols plotting our downfall.

The venue for the FMC Easter 2012 trip has been set as Antalya in Turkey. This is an exciting new venue for the club and has interest for both walkers and climbers alike.

The dates, dependant upon flights, are between 31st March and 15th April but people are welcome to join/leave the trip at any point. As usual all food, accommodation and car hire costs will be shared out amongst the participants proportionally to the length of their stay.

We now need you to let us know if you are going to join us on this Easter extravaganza so that we can investigate the accommodation options and charter flight options.

Ice Trip 2012 - Massif des Ecrins

Saturday 28th January to Saturday 4th February 2012

Gnarley Ice Climbing Dudes

This winter we will be staying in a rented house in a village called Villard St Pancrace in The Massif des Ecrins. Whilst not having any climbing on the doorstep the venue gives the choice of climbing in either Fressinieres / Fournel / Ceillac to the South or La Grave to the West.

The house has 15 beds. The cost of the accommodation is 19 euros per person per night =133 euros per person per week. A deposit is required to secure the booking so as well as the flight cost you should budget £32.00 for your share of that as soon as you can commit to the trip. The remainder will be payable direct to the house owner during the meet.

Any one who's listened to me going on about it or read my bits in the newsletters about it will know I'm just a little bit enthusiastic about an area of Morocco known as The Anti Atlas Mountains. Myself and Alan Blackburn have now been there three times. On at least one of each trip we were accompanied by Robin Andrews, Steve Wrigley, Ali Welsh and Dave Wood. I know they share my keenness on the area and it's adventure climbing.

As usual an exciting week was had by the team, magnificently organised by that well known chef, Martin Bennett. Thrilling times were guaranteed by the presence of Alan “stormbringer, harbinger of doom” Blackburn. Nick Hepburn arrived safely without any detours involving transcontinental train detours but Frank got to within 30 miles and then had a three hour detour due to a blocked high pass which he had been taken to via his sat nav.
